Apocalypse Ambience adds no monsters and no weapons. It works purely on mood, changing what you see and hear and throwing the occasional event at you until the world stops feeling safe.
That makes it a companion rather than a replacement. Run it alongside whatever apocalypse add-on you already use, and it supplies the dread that most of them skip.
Fog does most of the work. It sits over open ground until the horizon is gone, and hills, trees and buildings only resolve once you are nearly on top of them.
The light goes with it. Daytime turns flat and washed out, nights get genuinely dark, and particles drift through the air in the heavier stretches.
The effects are adjustable, so the tone is yours to set. Keep it subtle for a world that just feels abandoned, or push the settings until every session turns into a horror run.
Sound carries a lot of that weight. With the effects layered on top of a quiet survival world, the result is unsettling long before anything actually attacks you.
