Dappled Forest Biome

The dappled forest is a new woodland biome that spawns near cold areas. It has a warm autumn palette thanks to poplar trees, which come in red, orange, and yellow leaf variants with matching falling leaf particles. The forest floor is dotted with red shrubs, fallen poplar logs, shelf mushrooms, and leaf litter. Sheep, chickens, cows, pigs, rabbits, and foxes all spawn here using their cold variants.

Poplar Trees

Poplar trees are the defining feature of the biome and come with a full new wood set. A few things to know about them:

• Three leaf color variants: red, orange, and yellow, each with unique falling leaf particles
• Poplar saplings drop from any leaf variant and randomly grow into any of the three colors
• Fallen poplar logs generate on the ground with shelf mushrooms growing on top
• Wandering traders sell poplar saplings
• Poplar logs craft into a complete new wood block set
• Forest ambience sounds are tied to poplar leaf blocks

New Decorative Blocks

• Red Shrub — a decorative plant block that grows in small patches across the dappled forest. Can be composted. Bone meal spreads it to adjacent blocks.
• Shelf Mushroom — generates on poplar trees and fallen logs in small and large sizes. Bone meal grows a small one into a large one. Large shelf mushrooms drop two items when broken. Can be used in mushroom stew. Slightly bouncy when stepped on. Available from wandering traders.

Abandoned Camps

Abandoned camps are a new structure type found across 18 biomes, each with a biome-specific visual variant. The full list of biomes where they generate:

• Meadow, Cherry Grove, Forest, Birch Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest, Flower Forest, Windswept Forest, Dappled Forest
• Taiga, Snowy Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Old Growth Pine Taiga
• Sparse Jungle, Bamboo Jungle
• Swamp, Savanna, Wooded Badlands, Pale Garden

Each camp contains chests and barrels with loot. The question of who left them there and why is intentionally left unanswered for now.

Wool Stairs and Slabs

All 16 wool colors now have stair and slab variants. Black, blue, brown, cyan, gray, green, light blue, light gray, lime, magenta, orange, pink, purple, red, white, and yellow. A straightforward but long-overdue addition for builders who use wool regularly.
