Minecraft BE Beta 26.40.30: Pillows and more!

One of the most requested features in Bedrock's history just showed up in testing. Minecraft Preview 26.40.30 introduces sitting, officially, through a new item called the Cushion. The build also brings a temporary bed type and a round of polish for the Dappled Forest biome added in the last update. Rollout begins later today and may take a while to reach every platform.

Minecraft BE Beta 26.40.30: Pillows and more!

Sitting Is Finally Native

No more elytra stands, minecart tricks, or third-party addons. The Cushion is a placeable block-sized item that players can interact with directly to sit down. It's available in all 16 wool colors, each crafted from 3 matching wool slabs.

A few placement rules apply: cushions snap to the block grid horizontally but rest on top of whatever surface holds them up vertically. Once placed, they can't be repositioned, and removing the block underneath destroys them. They also skip collision entirely, meaning they can share space with other objects, just not with each other. One catch for now: the intended natural spawn location, Abandoned Camps, isn't generating them correctly yet. You'll need creative mode to grab one in this build.

A Bed You Use Once

Alongside the cushion comes the Straw Bed, a disposable way to skip the night without changing your spawn point. Sleep in it once and it's gone. It won't function in the Nether or the End, breaking instead if you try. Three hay bales craft into four straw beds, and they now show up naturally inside Abandoned Camps.

Dappled Forest Gets Cleaned Up

Several rough edges from the Dappled Forest's debut are addressed here:

  • Fog settings now line up with other forest biomes instead of looking inconsistent
  • Poplar leaves received texture updates and a new opaque variant, fixing a black background glitch
  • Poplar doors and signs were corrected to match the rest of the wood set's visual style
  • New ambient audio was added for poplar leaves and red shrubs
  • Abandoned Camps now spawn in Pale Garden and Flower Forest biomes too, and their loot tables no longer show incorrect potion names

Smaller Fixes Worth Knowing

Wool stairs and slabs finally have proper crafting recipes, closing a gap from when the blocks were first introduced. Azalea bushes no longer look transparent when viewed from underneath, brown and red mushrooms can't be placed outdoors after dark anymore, and a sulfur spike texture had a stray miscolored pixel corrected.
