Minecraft LIVE May 2026: Full Recap
Mojang held a bonus Minecraft LIVE broadcast at TwitchCon Europe 2026, packing it with updates on Chaos Cubed, a first look at the next game drop, new details on Minecraft Dungeons II, and a surprise movie sequel announcement.
Chaos Cubed
The upcoming Chaos Cubed drop got a proper spotlight, with the dev team showing off early prototypes of the sulfur cube mob. The cube absorbs different blocks and takes on their properties, which opens up a ridiculous amount of creative possibilities. The team talked about the appeal of lobbing cubes with different physics and, naturally, what happens when you feed one some TNT. Strapping TNT sulfur cubes to a happy ghast was confirmed to be not economical, but very fun.
Drop 3 of 2026: The Dappled Forest
Mojang gave an early peek at the third game drop of 2026, revealing a brand new biome called the dappled forest. The biome features poplar trees with warm, burnished tones, red shrubs, and mysterious abandoned camps scattered throughout the landscape. The developers shared both interior and exterior decoration ideas using the new poplar wood, which comes in a warm gray tone and works well in herringbone patterns. More details are expected closer to the fall drop.
Minecraft Dungeons II
The next reveal was a new enemy coming to Minecraft Dungeons II: the Twisted Warden. It is described as slow but extremely powerful, appearing in the deep dark and accessible through an ominous portal. The game will feature a mix of familiar and new biomes and is launching later this year on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass.
A Minecraft Movie Squared
The segment everyone was least expecting: the sequel to A Minecraft Movie has been officially announced and will be titled A Minecraft Movie Squared. Several cast members were confirmed:
- Jack Black and Jason Momoa both return
- Matt Berry is back in an undisclosed role (he previously played the Nitwit)
- Kirsten Dunst joins the cast as Alex
Alongside the announcement, director Jared Hess and Jens Bergensten launched The Minecraft Movie Build Challenge. Players can submit movie-inspired builds for a chance to have them featured in the film or its end credits, with prizes including a private screening and movie tickets.
