Chinese Junk

This schematic recreates a Chinese junk, the traditional sailing ship, floating on open water with a long curved hull built from warm orange toned wood planks. The hull rises steeply at both the bow and stern in the high, rounded shape typical of these vessels, its layered planking stepping outward in tiers that give the sides a ribbed, hand built texture. Three dark wooden masts stand along the deck, and a short flight of steps leads up from the main deck toward the raised stern, with torches placed along the railing to light the way.

The sails are the ship's most striking feature, built in pale white and divided into horizontal segments by dark wooden battens that run across each one, capturing the distinctive ribbed look of real junk sails. The two larger sails toward the center and stern tower over the deck, while a smaller one sits forward near the bow, giving the ship a staggered profile that leans into the wind. Set against the water, the whole build has the presence of a working vessel mid voyage, detailed enough to serve as a centerpiece for a harbor, a trading port, or an ocean scene.
